If you’ve got a few million dollars to burn, you could be looking at the perfect luxury item: a cleaning supplies company that will deliver a full-service, automated, and cost-effective cleaning service in Melbourne.
The company has been operating in Melbourne since 2013, and is now one of the biggest and best cleaning supply chains in the country.
In the past year alone, they’ve been able to transform a small-business shop into an environmentally-friendly, clean, and well-stocked home.
The first store, which opened in January 2018, was named Melbourne Clean and was a “game-changer” for the local community, said CEO Chris D’Arcy.
“It’s been an absolute success, it’s been really good for the community, and it’s a win-win,” he said.
“The community is really enjoying what we’re doing, and we’re getting a lot of customers in the process.”

As the store grew, D’Artis began to consider whether he should open another shop.
“At that point, I was thinking that we’re probably not going to get the support we need from the local council, and the council didn’t want to fund the store,” he explained.
“I said, ‘OK, we’ve got to find a way to make money, so why not go down this route?'”
After some thought, he decided to look into a local business that was already doing a good job: Melbourne Clean, which has offices in Melbourne and Melbourne’s CBD.
In a couple of months, he was able to secure a $10,000 loan from the city’s local government to expand the business and set up a Melbourne Clean facility.
It quickly became apparent that the company was not only a good fit for Melbourne, but a great fit for the city.
“When you go into a business, you want to make sure you’re going to make it profitable,” said D’Arthur.
“If you’re a little bit concerned about how you’re making money, you may go out and buy a second store or a third store or you may look at what other cities have been doing and what’s going on in other parts of the country.”
A clean, well-lit, and modern environment has always been important to D’Ary.
He said the company wanted to be able to offer a wide range of services for both the business owner and customer.
“We’re a service-oriented company.
We have a lot to offer our customers, and that’s what’s great about Melbourne Clean,” he noted.
“Our customer service is always the most important thing, and if we can offer a customer service experience, that’s really the icing on the cake.”
In 2017, Melbourne cleaned over 600,000 homes, and D’artis said the business was “truly the most effective” when it came to cleaning homes.
“Melbourne Clean is a big part of the community’s energy and happiness, and when you see how the community feels when they’re not cleaning, it makes a big difference,” he added.
Melbourne Clean has been open since 2018, and employs about 400 people in Melbourne’s inner city, including about 60 full-time staff.
The city is also a hub for the Australian Capital Territory’s residential real estate market, and many residents come to the store for cleaning supplies.
Melbourne cleaning supplies is part of a new partnership between the company and the city, which is also providing a cleaning service to a private home.
D’arth said that the Melbourne Clean brand was important to him, as it was “an iconic brand in Australia.”
“Melburnians love a clean environment and they love to be clean,” he told ABC Melbourne.
“They like having that clean feeling and being able to go to their own home, and I think it’s something we want to do to Melbourne.”
For D’Alcy, it was a win/win situation.
“People in Melbourne can have a cleaner environment than people in other places, and a cleaner house than people who live elsewhere,” he agreed.
“So it’s really good business, and one that we want for our community, because we’ve been very successful and we have been able in the past years to really turn around a small business and turn it into a really big, successful business.”
The Melbourne Clean company currently has about 300 employees, and are currently looking for additional staff to help with expansion.
Melbourne’s community has been supportive of the company’s work.
“As a community we’ve supported them, we’re supporting them,” said City of Melbourne Councillor Tim Tompkins.
“There’s a lot more people in the community who want to see them grow and have more customers come through.”
