New Brunswick is to install two million washing machines for cleaning the city’s streets, while British Columbia has ordered 600 washing machines.
In a news release on Friday, the government of British Columbia said it is replacing 300 of the existing machines with new models.
It will also install another 300 new washing machines to replace the remaining 300.
The move is part of an effort to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 from 2005 levels.
The announcement comes as the Trudeau government aims to slash greenhouse gas output from the transportation sector by up to 70 per cent.
The federal government has said the shift to a greener, more sustainable transport system will lead to lower greenhouse gas prices and help Canada reduce the amount of carbon dioxide it emits from burning fossil fuels.
